Ice Fishing

The best time of the year!! 

Everyone crosses their fingers for good ice, and January usually brings it.  The ice around the bass island complex locks in sooner and sticks around longer than other ice on the western basin, giving Put in Bay the best location to stay.  Ice fishing around Put in Bay, Rattlesnake and Green island is nothing short of phenomenal for walleye, and on many occasions perch.  If the fishing isn't enough for you, the experience alone will be!  From the flight over, the ride out to the shanty, scenery, good people, good food, you'll want to come back every year...probably more than once!  Hiring a guide is definitely worth it and highly recommended.  Not only do they provide all the amenities to get the job done in comfort, they also have a daily knowledge on where the bite is and what tactic is working. 

REMEMBER**  Ice is never 100% safe.  Always use a trusted guide service!  While the islands offer great ice, they can be very dangerous.  Underwater currents and wind can shift ice and the thickness of ice very quickly.  Ice guides have a daily knowledge of the ice and the conditions, setting you up for success from the beginning.  Please let us know if you need help choosing a guide, we know the best!!
